“Kids don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY...

This organization has allowed me to participate in many community service projects and the leadership and public speaking skills have proven invaluable.” ~ Will Cavedon’12

Berlin Upbeat May Leadership Weekend
Posted 05/19/2015 03:50PM

Each May the Berlin Upbeat Program conducts a leadership training workshop at Camp Woodstock in Woodstock, Ct.  This year over 200 students in grades 9-12 participated in the workshop from Friday, May 15th until Sunday, May 18th.  The senior participants assisted members of the adult Upbeat Community Team with the preparing of all of the meals and with various projects around the camp.  The grade 9-11 students attended a variety of training sessions during the workshop where they learned leadership skills, communication skills, group dynamics, project planning, resistance education and enjoyed working in teams on a challenge course on Saturday afternoon.  The group enjoyed the "Senior Show" on Saturday night and planned 16 appreciation projects for groups within the schools and the community who have supported the Upbeat Program during the year.  Members of the junior class also attended specific training sessions where they had an opportunity to discuss the goals for the house leaders and senior board members for next year.  They also had speakers and presentations which allowed them to explore the leadership skills and techniques they will need as they direct the program in the coming year.
