BHS Business Education Teacher Honored with Inaugural Educator Award

The Town of Berlin Economic Development Commission recognized business educator, Lorraine Wicklund, with their inaugural Educator Award.  Ms. Wicklund is a graduate of Berlin High School and has been teaching business education since 1983, joining the Berlin High School staff in 2003.  In her time at BHS, she has served as Business Club advisor, class advisor, students cheerleader on courts and fields, trip chaperone, and field trip coordinator on numerous occasions.  She participates in activities with the Connecticut Society of CPAs (CTCPA), including bringing a student to a forensic accountant event.  She is active with Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, where she coordinated numerous job shadows for students at Microsoft, Comcast, VOYA, and NBC.  Ms. Wicklund participates in the Junior Achievement Entrepreneurial Academy and, over the past two years, has accompanied students to the JA National Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Wicklund’s Accounting II students consistently score near the top of the state's rankings in the State Accounting Test, taking the top honor the last three years, on the State of Connecticut Accounting Test.  As a BHS DECA mentor, she attended the DECA International Conference in Anaheim, California this past April with students, who competed in various areas including marketing, finance, and accounting.
