Principal's Welcome

Dear Hubbard School Parents and Families,

Welcome to another fantastic, exciting year at Richard D. Hubbard School!  I hope this communication finds you and your family healthy, happy, and rejuvenated for the educational opportunities and successes the 2016-2017 school year will offer.  Without question, the spirit of our school will be renewed and revitalized when students arrive at Hubbard on August 31st for the start of another memorable year.  Each and every child contributes and impacts our educational community in such unique and beautiful ways.

Our talented staff works diligently and collaboratively to provide a standards-based curriculum for approximately 215 students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 5.  Through shared commitment, common vision, and a unifying educational philosophy, the professional community at Hubbard seeks to support every child on his/her own pathway to success.  By providing a structured, respectful, nurturing learning environment defined by expectation, rigor, and positive reinforcement students thrive in academic, social, and emotional arenas.  Children are provided numerous learning opportunities and experiences in the aforementioned areas, resulting in both personal and collective growth and achievement.

The mission of Richard D. Hubbard School is to educate for excellence in a safe and nurturing atmosphere, cultivating a solid foundation of skills, knowledge and values through high-quality instructional practice and increased expectations, inspiring all students to achieve their maximum potential.  Students emerge as respectful, productive members of the community with an enduring understanding of 21st century skills and learning as a lifelong process.  This mission is carried forth as a “living document” and is upheld and reinforced on a daily basis through both practical and professional avenues, with students at the very center of our work.

Our school website provides a wealth of ongoing, pertinent information for all members of the educational community.  Please check the website frequently for information and updates within academic, curricular, social, and community arenas, as well as, important dates, events, and announcements from the Hubbard PTO and school staff/administration.

A number of new and continuing programs have been scheduled for the upcoming year and beyond.  Staff and administration have been preparing for such programs to ensure K-5 student success.  We are continuing K-5 implementation of reader’s and writer’s workshops in literacy as we progress to year 4 implementation of our Investigations math program and the Words Their Way word study program.  Hubbard’s Husky Pride character education program will be expanded beyond respect, responsibility, honesty, caring and citizenship to include cooperation, assertion, empathy, self-control, and sportsmanship.   Grades 2-5 will move forward with keyboarding in the computer lab and on chrome books in classrooms.  Increased numbers of iPad minis, iPads, and chrome books have been purchased in addition to lap tops, desk tops, interactive SMARTBoards, and document cameras to further support technology in classrooms for the upcoming year.  Grades K-5 are now 1:1 with electronic devices.

Once again, I welcome you to the genesis of fond memories and another year of achievement at Hubbard School. I am honored and excited to share this educational journey with your family.

Sincerely,

Alfred Souza III
