Ms. Wilson is Griswold School's Teacher of the Year!!!
Posted 08/27/2018 01:27PM

Congratulations to Ms. Alison Wilson, Griswold School's 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year.  Alison has been a vocal and instrumental music teacher at Griswold for the past ten years.  One of her many beliefs about teaching music is based on a quote:  “Fun is the end result of hard work…”

Her role as a teacher is to help students learn about music to appreciate and understand the value it holds in their lives.  Her biggest reward is when students have personal success.  She understands that her students are individuals with different abilities and learning styles and adjusts her instruction to fit each one.

She was the first band teacher in Berlin to begin using SmartMusic, a web-based music education platform that enhances the experience of practicing at home.  She organized Griswold Night at a Hartford Wolfpack game for the past three years where the band played at the beginning of the game, arranged for some of her beginning Tuba players to participate in “Tuba Christmas” and played alongside of them, and arranged for elementary band students to perform on the field at a BHS football game.  Alison ignites passion in her students, is very generous with her knowledge and is always willing to support music education at any level.

We are fortunate to have Ms. Wilson represent Griswold School as Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations to Ms. Wilson!!
