Berlin BOE Once Again Receives Highest Leadership Award for Connecticut Boards of Education
Berlin, CT, Wednesday, December 18, 2013: The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) recently announced the recipients of its 2013 Board of Distinction Award. And once again, the Berlin Board of Education was selected to receive this recognition. This prestigious award was created by CABE as way to recognize exceptional work by boards of education.
In order to qualify for this award, a board of education must meet strict criteria that promote effective teamwork, group decision making and student achievement. Specifically, a Board needs to fulfill at least 22 out of 30 different requirements in five different areas of Board work – community relations, board operations, policy, professional development and organizational leadership. In recognizing the Berlin Board of Education, CABE noted Berlin's focus on student achievement and results, stating that "all who are involved in the schools understand the district's mission and focus on student achievement."
"Every member of the Board of Education should be proud of this recognition," said Board President Gary Brochu. "This seventh consecutive selection of the Berlin Board of Education to receive CABE's highest award is tangible evidence of the continuous efforts of board members to collectively focus on the achievement of all of our students."
The Berlin Board of Education received its award at the CABE/CAPSS Annual Conference in November from Stefan Pryor, the Commissioner of Education. But don't expect the Board to rest on its laurels. According to Brochu, "it always nice to be recognized for our work, but the work of educating our students continues tomorrow. And every day after that."
