Capstone

The mission is to engage each student in a personalized learning experience All seniors at Berlin High School are required to complete Capstone project in either semester one or two. The project allows students the opportunity to apply and demonstrate interdisciplinary skills and knowledge acquired in high school while investigating a specialized area of interest. By definition the Senior Capstone provides a context for students to find, use, and manipulate content to learn, solve problems, create, and think for a lifetime.


Required Tasks

  • Identify a topic that you are interested in or passionate about
  • Identify and utilize a Mentor
  • Develop a Project Proposal and Action Plan
  • Reflections on process and progress
  • Use research-based question(s) to identify and evaluate resources to deepen knowledge of the topic, idea, action, or creation
  • Produce an Annotated Bibliography of interviews, observations, articles and other sources related to the topic
  • Create a 2-3 page written statement that captures the scope of the project
  • Develop artifact(s) of learning
  • Integrate the use of Technology throughout the process
  • Demonstrate understanding of new knowledge at a Capstone Exhibition
Students will have the support of a Capstone Coordinator during weekly workshops, a Senior Advisor and an appropriate (content/field specific) Mentor, as well as a school issued Chromebook while completing the project.  All necessary resources will be located in, and all required assignments will be submitted online via Schoology.
