Dear Parents and Student-Athletes:

Thank you to everyone who attended the Fall Sports Meeting on Wednesday, August 25! I am excited that we have returned to a full fall sports schedule and somewhat of a return to normalcy for our student-athletes (and parents too).

The PowerPoint presentation that I went over is linked with this post. If you attended the meeting, please refer to it as a reminder. If you could not attend the meeting, I encourage you to thoroughly review it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to have your student-athlete check with his/her coach or myself in the Athletic Office.

A sampling of the information contained in the PowerPoint:

  • Student-athletes CANNOT practice or play with another team in the same sport. Let’s not travel the road of ineligibility and forfeiting games. Some exceptions are possible based on the specific sport BUT MUST be approved ahead of time!
  • CIAC Covid Protocol
  • CIAC Academic Eligibility Information - (info available on billboard outside Athletics Office)
  • Academic Intervention Program (AIP) - (info available on billboard outside Athletics Office)
  • NCAA Recruiting - (info available on billboard outside Athletics Office)
  • CIAC Website -
  •  Signing Up for CIAC Updates/Scheduling Changes
  • Student/Parent Section
  • Sportsmanship and the return of the Red Sea!
  • Booster Club activities - please get involved and support!

Again, if you have any questions or concerns, please have your student-athlete talk to the coach or see me in the Athletic Office!

Best of luck to all our fall sports teams as you get your seasons underway! Go Redcoats!

David Francalangia

Athletic Director

Athletic Director’s Welcome:
On behalf of all of the coaches and staff working here at Berlin, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our athletic website to explore some of the athletic programs we offer here at Berlin High School. We are extremely fortunate to have such a great group of coaches working with your son(s)/daughter(s).  We have nothing but their best interests at heart and it is our job to bring out the very best in each and every one of them.  We hope that their successes on the field will carry over to other aspects of their lives during their high school career and beyond.

We strive to foster academic excellence, personal growth, and respect for diversity. Within a safe learning environment, we share the collective responsibility with students, parents, and the community to cultivate the skills, knowledge and attitudes that help our students realize their full potential as learners and responsible citizens. The Athletic Department is concerned with the educational development of students and believes that a properly managed, well-organized sports program will meet the students’ need for self-expression, mental alertness, and physical growth. The Berlin High Athletic Department would like to extend an invitation to all students to participate in the many interscholastic athletic programs offered. As a proud member of the Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) we offer 29 varsity sports at the high school with many of these teams having junior varsity and freshman teams.
The numerous programs are designed to accommodate as many students as possible. Students who choose to participate in athletics are making a choice that requires self-discipline, personal organization and a serious commitment. For this reason, we place a strong emphasis on good training habits, academic responsibility and positive school behaviors. Students who do not adhere to these rules may jeopardize their privilege to participate in the program. Parents and student-athletes should be aware that involvement in athletics is a privilege, not a right. Student-Athletes are role models and should remember to exhibit a positive image for themselves, their teams and their families.

While we are extremely proud of the success of our many programs, we do not condone a “win at all costs” attitude. The purpose of the program is to ensure a positive experience for all students who choose to participate. It is also a goal to provide all student-athletes with an opportunity to learn the importance of ethical behavior, good sportsmanship, positive values, and a realization of their self-worth.
The Berlin High School Athletic Department staff is a professional group that takes great pride in their concern for the welfare of each athlete. They are aware of the tremendous influence of their position and strive to instill the highest ideals and character traits in our students.  On behalf of the coaching staff, I look forward to working with you and wish you a great academic and athletic year.  Participation in interscholastic athletics is an experience you will never forget. Enjoy it; take pride in your performance and best wishes for a successful season.
