For Immediate Release: June 10, 2024

Berlin Hires John McNair As Head Boys Basketball Coach

Berlin, CT - Former Berlin High School player and Trinity College men’s assistant basketball coach John McNair has been named the next Berlin boys basketball coach.

“We are pleased to bring home Coach McNair, a former Redcoat with coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate level, to lead our boys basketball program,” said Berlin Athletic Director Dave Francalangia. “John will bring his passion and expertise of the game along with his history and knowledge of Berlin basketball to the position which will benefit both the student-athletes and program as a whole.”

A 2009 Berlin graduate, McNair met with the team for the first time earlier today. McNair spent the 2023-2024 season as an assistant coach at Trinity College helping lead the Bantams to a 30-2 record, NESCAC regular season and tournament titles and the first Final 4 berth in school history where they fell in the semifinals to eventual champion Trine University.

I am humbled and honored to be named the next Berlin High School Boys Basketball Coach,” said McNair. “This program spurred my love for the game and coaching. I’m grateful to be in the same position once held by two of my mentors, Coach Bosso and Coach Veneziano. My family and I look forward to getting started with our current and future players. We look forward to making the town of Berlin proud with the way we represent ourselves and how we play.”

McNair also served various roles collegiately at Sacred Heart University (Coordinator of Men's Basketball Operations), University of New Haven (Graduate Assistant), and Western Connecticut State University (Assistant Coach).

He also served as the JV girls basketball coach at Berlin HS before being named the head girl’s basketball coach at RHAM from 2020-2023, helping turn around a three-win program into a 14-win season receiving a bye in the CIAC State Tournament.

McNair will officially begin his Berlin coaching tenure when the CIAC allows practice to start on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
