  • Berlin Upbeat is a comprehensive school and community-based character development and leadership training program. Our goal is to encourage the youth of Berlin to develop sound decision-making skills and to provide opportunities for positive community involvement and service. The Upbeat Program began with a federal grant in 1988.

    • Students
    • School staff, teachers and administrators
    • Parents
    • Police
    • Community
  • Upbeat works because of its enormous appeal to its target groups - school-age children, parents, teachers/administrators, police officers, town officials and Berlin residents. The program offers something that each group values as fun and important.

  • The Upbeat Program is funded solely through grants, financial donations, fund raisers, gifts and donations of goods and services by the town, school system, service groups and clubs, the local business community and citizens.

"Students don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." - John Maxwell

WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY...

"The projects that are done with Upbeat show adults and younger children in the community, as well as the rest of the school community, that high school students can in fact be productive in enhancing the community. Upbeat builds bridges between the different facets of our school and our community while helping us to build our own character." ~Patrick King "08
