This was a REAL close one. A four point victory turns into a tie if any of the 2nd places turn to 3rd or a first turns into a second place. We had several second places that were hundredths of seconds ahead of being thirds. Sophomore, Jimmy Grieco, ran his personal best in the 400 to take second by 0.03 seconds, and Sophomore Alex Halkias took second in the 100 by 0.02 seconds. Halkias lowered his personal best to 11.65 in the process. In the Pole Vault, a tie breaker went our way when Junior, Jeremy Sirois took first when the Plainville vaulter fell ill and couldn't vault at the tie breaking height - Jeremy did and won the event for us and qualified for the State Meet. On the other side of the coin, Berlin's 4 x 800 relay was beaten by only 0.14 seconds when Sophomore Josh Ladd's finishing kick came up just short of erasing a 40 m lead by Plainville in the last 200 meters of the final leg of the relay.
Senior, TriCaptain, Mitch Maslowski lowered his 100 m record to 11.19 seconds, Maslowski also improved his personal best in the Long Jump to 20-10. Senior Tri-Captain Dan Labbadia heaved his person best in the Shot - over 43 feet.
The team is peaking at the right time, with three school records falling in the last two weeks. Senior, Matt Luddy continues to regularly jump over 6-4, while adding Triple Jump to his repertoire of events this week, with a jump of just over 37 feet. The Conference meet is next Wednesday, 5/24, at Willow Brook Park in New Britain and the State MM meet is the following Wednesday 5/31.
